Tumpo's Coat & Trowel

A LOYAL ASSISTANT
"Tumpo" is a recurring character throughout Fox's notebooks who appears to accompany Fox on most of his travels. He is described by Sir Cyril as “over-loyal and under-careful … a faithful but stupid man”.
A TERRIBLE ARCHAEOLOGIST
It seems his reputation is well deserved. In one instance recounted in Sir Cyril's diary, he returns from town to find Tumpo eating baked beans on an ancient Roman plate. The plate disintegrates, pouring hot baked beans onto his lap. On another occasion, Tumpo uses an ancient Celtic Love Spoon to stir his tea.
SEARCHING FOR TUMPO
Referred to simply by his nickname throughout the notebooks, the true identity of Tumpo was a mystery - until a museum coat was found in a St Fagan’s warehouse with the label “A Morgan (Tumpo)”, identifying Tumpo as Arwen Morgan, a junior museum assistant during the years 1920 - 1954. The remains of an ancient scotch egg were found intact in one of the pockets of the coat.
In the wake of this discovery, National Museum Wales has commissioned a statue of Tumpo to be installed in Gorsedd Gardens during late 2013 as a public celebration of idiots everywhere.
